The Epochef concert in Studio S1 at Czech Radio
A truly exceptional concert, at which young musicians - laureates of the prestigious Jugend musiziert competition and European Union of Music Competitions for Youth (EMCY) - took place in Studio S1 at Czech Radio on Sunday 20 October 2024.
Works by significant composers that were fascinating for the audience in many regards were performed under the leadership of the renowned conductor, Martin Brauß, and accompanied by teachers from the famed Ensemble Modern.
The program included works by John Adams, Erwin Schulhoff, Anton Webern, Cornelius Cardew and the Czech composer František Chaloupka, whose presence at the concert was one of the highlights of the musical afternoon. František Chaloupka attended the performance to witness the rendition of his work Stockhausen on Sirius, which was received with great acclaim.
The concert offered audiences a unique opportunity to experience new music as performed by young musicians who have dedicated themselves to modern, demanding works with passion and precision. The audience enjoyed the exceptional atmosphere thanks to the energy of the talented young musicians, the excellent musical communication between the individual members of the ensemble and the unusual repertoire.
The performance was further evidence of the high level of the educational programs that bring beginner musicians together with internationally recognised experts and enable them to improve their skills in the area of contemporary music. This opportunity left a deep musical impression not only on the participants, but also on the audience members who had the opportunity to listen to interesting interpretations of modern compositions.
