The competition, which is organised every year by Czech Radio and the Academy of Classical Music, provides young talents from around the world with the place to shine. This year, the jury selected from 36 anonymous recordings of musicians from 15 countries.
Four exceptional young musicians will perform on stage at the Rudolfinum: the pianists Anke Chen from China, Celina Höferlin from Germany and Nora Lubbadová from the Czech Republic along with the Polish violinist Zoja Syguda. Each of them will perform one masterpiece of classical music accompanied by the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Marek Prášil. This will include works by Edvard Grieg, Sergei Rachmaninov, Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy and Petr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
The main prize will be awarded to one of the young musicians by an international jury consisting of the pianists Ivo Kahánek, Maria Meerovitch and Paul Lewis, the violinist František Novotný, the cellist Tomáš Jamník, the clarinettist Irvin Venyš, the flautist Henrik Wiese, the oboist Henrik Wahlgren, the French horn player Sarah Willis and the music editor Stana Salgo. There are, of course, also other prizes to be won at the finale: the audience will choose its favourite for the Audience Prize and the winner will also receive the Czech Radio Prize, which will enable her to record a professional CD.
If you are unable to be physically present at the Rudolfinum, don’t despair: Czech Radio’s Vltava station will broadcast the final concert live. You can also look forward to the Concertino Praga South Bohemian Festival, which will take place between 16 and 20 September. During the festival, the competition laureates will perform at picturesque venues, such as the châteaux in Český Krumlov, Bechyně and Jindřichův Hradec, but also in the pilgrimage church in Klokoty u Tábora. The festival will enable you to visit some beautiful sites in the South Bohemian Region, while also giving you an opportunity to support these young artists are the very beginning of their careers.
